ABOUT THE PROJECT
This project was designed while studying at Projector Design School in Kiev in 2016 as a graphic designer. The task was to get inspired by an original album of a band/singer u randomly get. Make a research work of an album, history of its creation and other circumstances. I got the famous work of Bon Jovi called “Slippery when wet”. The result had to be a brand new reinvented album cover and a poster.
Sketching stage. Finding the right imagery.
Sketching icons for a pattern. Design process in illustrator. No color. References: #love, #urban life, #stress, #rock, #faith, #money, #speed, #despiration.
Icons with basic color and shading.
Giving icons some color and making them unique in style. Decided to make all the color of icons a bit off the outline to show the idea of instability of life and live fast die young philosophy this album transmits.
Pattern on album cd cover.
I chose this bright palette for the final pattern because along the idea of desperation the “Slippery when wet” album gives u energy to live for the moment and “hang on to what u’ve got”. Such colors were also widely spread in the time the album was issued. So it’s also a tribute.
An A3 poster and a few variants of pattern colors.
A3 poster featuring stylized character. A tired rock musician from 80s, exhausted after family quarrels, problems earning for living and paying rent. The name of the album – “Slippery when wet” – has been stylized as a yellow road sign.
